Hardiness Zone - 4 - 9
Bloom - This plant blooms in its third year of development.
Winter -
You may allow this plant to freeze back to the ground, then cut the trunk. If you live in an extremely cold climate, (lower than -20º in the winter,) you will need to mulch, (6" - 10",) and cover the underground corm. If you provide protection for the trunk, the plant will have a head start in the spring allowing it possibly produce a flower.
Mature Height - Up to 18' - 20' in its third year. If it freezes back in the winter, it will probably grow to 10' high.
Sun - Prefers full sun, but will tolerate partial shade.
Water - While it is practically impossible to over-water, this plant will not tolerate standing water.
Fertilizer - All bananas are heavy feeders. Provide plenty of water and fertilizer during the growing season.
Soil - All bananas need rich, well draining soil. If the soil is poor, you can fertilize weekly. If the soil is rich, once a month is sufficient.
Container - The plant will grow smaller in a pot than in a garden, however you will be able to take it inside for the winter.

*Note: To avoid wind damage, place this plant in a sheltered spot. This will prevent the leaves from getting tattered.

PRAYING HANDS BANANA
Musa 'Praying hands'

This is a very collectible dessert banana plant. It is perhaps the most unusual and distinctive of all banana fruits. Two adjacent hands of bananas are fused, giving the plant the appearance of praying hands. The fruits are delicious - when totally ripe, the individual bananas can be carefully separated from each other. Another way of serving is to cut across the "hands" and consume it with a spoon.

SIAM RUBY BANANA
Musa acuminata 'Tapo Chimera', 'Siam Ruby'

Finally a truly red banana! The leaves are red with a hint of bronze and chartreuse green flecks and blotches. The young plant is bright green and starts to develop the red colors at the size of about 12” tall. More sunlight will bring out brighter, stronger red color and stronger contrast with the occasional green variegation.

This is a dessert banana - sweet and seedless.

The Siam Ruby banana is new in cultivation in the United States. The cold hardiness data is not reliable yet. It should be treated as tender plant that doesn't tolerate frost. In the same time if frost causes severe damage to the plant, it should be able to come back from the underground corm once the temperature allows it – like other tender banana types. Certainly the underground corm has to be protected from frost.
